Event registration is now open!  Please read through the information below and click on the button at the bottom of the page to register.

DESCRIPTION:

This is a rare opportunity to learn the cultural, musical, and dance elements of traditional shishi-mai dance. Alongside the unique choreography, participants learn the compelling taiko, percussion, and flute accompaniments.

Shishi-mai with master-lion-dancer KYOSUKE SUZUKI teaches the Wakayama-Shachu style of shishi-mai, teaching the concepts and techniques of the cat-like movements. Participants also learn the musical elements supporting the dance, including shime-daiko okedo rhythms, shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute) melodies, and atarigane (hand gong) patterns.
